NEO BHARATHAM
Collaboration has always existed in the Indian dance traditions even before it was acknowledged as a formal way of creating new work. Artistes today painstakingly work towards retaining the core values of their original training and infusing it with creative innovation in an attempt to satisfy the audienceís thirst for something new.
With globalization, the origins of various Indian dance forms have expanded to accept the stylized technique of Neo Bharatham. This is the modern era Indian Contemporary Dance, which sheds new light on Indian Classical Dance forms and brings oneís body and shape beyond the inherent boundaries to occupy new ìartistic spacesî.
Neo Bharatham incorporates the Abhinaya (facial expressions) techniques as a source of motivation, and is further developed by encouraging dancers to create new variations and improvisations based on their own exploration learned from their dance techniques. It derives its creation from the existing traditions of Indian Classical Dance, Indian Martial Arts, Folk and Tribal dance forms of various Indian states.
The unique feature of Neo Bharatham by Apsaras Arts is the incorporation of movements from South East Asian dance styles that are popular in Singapore, in addition to elements from Martial Arts and Yoga.
