Indian Performing Arts Convention

IPAC has been presented in Singapore since 2012 as an annual convention for the Indian Performing Arts, and has opened its doors to more than 1,500 practitioners and benefited over 8,000 Indian arts audiences in the region.

Having launched its Australian edition in 2021, Indian Performing Arts Convention (IPAC) will be running its 2nd consecutive event this September in Melbourne, Australia, featuring internationally acclaimed practitioners in music, dance and arts research.

This year, after a year of online run owing to the pandemic, IPAC 2022 will be presented as in-person sessions with a unique programming targeting practitioners, teachers and students of Indian dance and music, researchers, scholars, composers and choreographers, and arts enthusiasts.

IPAC 2022 Australia is curated by Apsaras Arts Dance Company (Singapore) and presented in collaboration with Monash University (Australia) and The Academy of Indian Music (Australia)

IPAC 2022 Australia will feature:

  • Masterclasses in Bharatanatyam and Carnatic Music (Vocal and Violin)
  • Lecture demonstrations by experts, scholars and leading practitioners in dance and music
  • Performance showcases by international artistes presenting concerts in Bharatanatyam, and Carnatic Music in the marvellous Alexander Theatre.
  • Participants of the Masterclasses will have an opportunity to perform at the IPAC2022 Australia celebratory concert performance in the marvellous Alexander Theatre.

Participants registering for the full IPAC2022 Australia program as a DELAGATE will get access to specific sessions of the Masterclasses, have access to all the Lecture Demonstration sessions and get complimentary tickets to the IPAC 2022 Australia Showcase Performances. Alternatively, one can sign up for individual sessions of the Lecture Demonstration or for the Showcase Performances separately.

    Suitable for participants aged 14 years and above with 4 – 5 years’ dance learning experience

    Suitable for participants aged over 18 years with a minimum of 8 years’ dance learning experience

Showcase Performances

IPAC 2022 Australia will present the following showcase performances

  1. Confluence : In a rare appearance on Australia’s stages, Indian star ‘Mandolin’ U. Rajesh creates magic with a collaboration across cultures that celebrates the confluence of musical traditions.
  2. Mohini and Parama Padam – Life’s Game of Snakes and Ladders : Two virtuoso Bharatanatyam dance performances from Singapore’s award winning Apsaras Arts Dance Company. Performed by company’s senior dancer Seema Hari Kumar and internationally acclaimed soloist and principal dancer Mohanapriyan Thavarajah.
  3. An Evening with the Lalgudi Duo : Lalgudi G.J.R. Krishnan and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi, brother and sister of the astounding musical Lalgudi dynasty, bring Melbourne audiences a night of beauty, serenity and virtuosity.
  4. The Five Gems of Lalgudi : A showcase of Melbourne’s finest Carnatic musicians and singers including the Lalgudi Ensemble, accompanied by the legendary Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi herself.
  5. New Dimensions to the Margam : Bharatanatyam performance by one of the most sought after dancers of her generation, Rama Vaidyanathan

Selected candidates shall be notified via email. Selection and class allocation shall be determined based on candidate’s proficiency. Faculty’s decision is final.
